Friends of the South Windsor Public Library

SWPL cannot have too many Friends! Please consider joining this group to enrich the Library and the Town of South Windsor as a whole. Friends of SWPL receive:

  • Monthly calendars, program flyers, and newsletters by mail
  • Advance announcements of special events and trips
  • The satisfaction of supporting your community library
  • Lifetime Friends receive special recognition with their name engraved on a plaque dis plated in the Friends' Room. 

Interested parties should fill out the form on this page and pay their annual dues either by mail (South Windsor Public Library, c/o Friends of the Library, 1550 Sullivan Avenue, South Windsor, CT 06074) or online through PayPal.

About the Friends of the South Windsor Public Library

The mission of Friends of SWPL is to support library activities, publicize library events and issues, and develops a supportive, informed group of library advocates and users. Here are some of the ways the Friends achieves its goals:

 
  • Release newsletters promoting library events. 
  • Suppling funding for programs, museum passes, equipment, cultural trips, and the development of new collections and services.
  • Contributing hospitality and volunteer support for a variety of library events.
  • Distributing welcome kits for South Windsor newborns through the Books for Babies program.
  • Purchasing a dictionary for every third grade student in South Windsor.
  • Dispensing scholarships for graduating South Windsor students.
  • Providing transportation of Kindergarten classes for library tours.

Fundraising

The Friends of SWPL raise funds primarily through book sales, trips, and membership dues. The group also receives funds from foundations, memorial gifts, and grants. Please consider making a donation to the Friends if you are able!

Donations

Donations to the Friends of the SWPL Book Sale are accepted providing the following:

  1. Donations must be boxed or bagged and placed inside the blue bins at the library entrances.
  2. Donations should be gently used books for children, youth, and adults in like-new condition, DVDs, music CDs, audio books, and puzzles.
  3. Encyclopedias, magazines, and textbooks will not be accepted.
  4. Please note: The Friends Book Sale is not a recycling facility for worn, damaged, and yellowed books. Books in poor condition can be recycled in the Town's single stream blue tipper barrels. 
  5. Special arrangements should be made for donations of several boxes of items. Send an email to ceperrill@aol.com to arrange for a scheduled drop off time.

Meetings of the Friends Executive Board take place on the first Tuesday of each month at 1PM in the Board Room.
