Borrowing Policy
Any resident of South Windsor is eligible for a free borrower's card at our library. Please bring identification showing your South Windsor address when you apply for a card. Your library card must be presented when borrowing materials. Your South Windsor library card may also be used in most public libraries through the statewide Connecticard system. Materials borrowed from one public library may be returned to any other public library; they will be delivered to the owning library by the Connecticar delivery system.
Loan Periods
Most library materials - 3 weeks
Feature film videos and DVDs  (up to a maximum of 6 per household) -  1 week.
DVDs marked "14 Day Loan" - 2 weeks.
Phoenix Video Society DVDs - 3 days.
Museum passes - 2 days.
Framed art - 8 weeks.

Most  library materials may be renewed one time, unless others are waiting for it.
Museum passes and some interlibrary loan items cannot be renewed.
Renew in person, online through the library catalog or by phone at 644-1541.
Returned items may be checked-out on the same library card the following day if available.

If the items you need are in circulation, you may place a "hold" on the materials and we will notify you when the items are returned.  Please have your library card number ready! You may also place "holds" directly on the computer, either from home or in the library. If the item  you want but it is currently "unavailable",  please click on the button marked "Place hold" and then follow the directions.
Museum Passes
Museum passes  are funded by the Friends of South Windsor Public Library.  Passes  may be reserved at the Adult Circulation Desk up to 1 month in advance.  They  may be borrowed for 2 days and are not renewable. Most Museum Passes may now be printed at home without picking up the pass from the Library or returning it after use.  Passes that must be borrowed and returned at the Library (as determined by the specific museum) carry a fine of $10.00/day if returned late.

Interlibrary Loans
We can borrow many of the books, videos and sound recordings which we do not own.  Just go the home page, click on 'Contact Us' and then 'Request  Interlibrary Loan".  Or ask at the Adult Reference Desk or the Children's Circulation Desk.
Overdue Charges

Daily fines on most library materials returned after their due date were eliminated as of September 1, 2022.  Museum passes that must be borrowed and returned at the Library (not printed at home, by the policy of the museum) incur a $10/day fine if returned late.
Borrowers will continue to receive overdue notices as reminders to return materials, including a final bill indicating the cost of replacing the item if it is never returned. A bill or fees for damaged materials in excess of $25 will cause a borrower's card to be blocked (suspended) in all area libraries.
