International Film Series
Our International Film Series with Prof. Michael DiRaimo continues. We’ll be watching The Band’s Visit, a 2007 film from Israel directed by Eran Kolirin. Members of an Egyptian band find themselves stranded in a desert town in Israel. Curiosity, grudging hospitality, and a quiet yearning to understand one’s supposed enemy provide the essential elements of this bitter-sweet comedy. The film will be shown on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 pm and Professor DiRaimo will lead a discussion. We will also show the film on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 2pm with either Sandy or Mary leading the discussion. Light refreshments will be served.

Hartford Courant Article About Our Elevator
Yes it's true; our elevator will be undergoing some serious repairs. But, we don't know when. Right now, our elevator is working. We'll update this information when we know more.
TIME FOR OUR WINTER REMINDER...
Does the Library Close During Inclement Weather?
We try to keep Library hours as predictable as possible, so we don't often close for bad weather, but we'd like to have you make sure we're here before you venture out.  To see if we have closed early,
  • Look at our website.  This page is changed right away when we make a decision to change hours.
  • Call the Library's main phone number (860) 644-1541 to make sure we're open. If no one answers, please stay cozy at home.
  • Check television lists of special closings.  It may take some time for our listing to appear, so this is not as immediate a "check" as the first two methods.
  • Look at the Library's doors for signs indicating special closings.
  • If you are visiting us for a meeting sponsored by a community group other than the Library, please call the leader of your meeting to find out if it has been cancelled. (You might ask them if they've remembered to let us know, too!)
Enjoy those Library materials for an extra day without worry! Overdue fines are not charged for days we aren't open.    The book drops will always be available in case you don't have time to come back another day.

Coming to See an Exhibit at the Library? Don't be disappointed!
The Library is glad to provide many exhibit spaces used to display the talents of members of our community.  Most exhibits are here for a full calendar month.
During the school year in particular, our meeting rooms are also used for gatherings of local organizations (as well as Library programs).  These "one-time events" are often scheduled with very little notice and are not part of the Library's monthly calendar.
If you are coming to see an exhibit in a Library meeting room, please call us at 860-644-1541 to be sure the room will not be in use when you arrive.
