Borrowing Policy
Any resident of South Windsor is eligible for a free borrower's card at our library. Please bring identification showing your South Windsor address when you apply for a card. Your library card must be presented when borrowing materials. Your South Windsor library card may also be used in most public libraries through the statewide Connecticard system. Materials borrowed from one public library may be returned to any other public library; they will be delivered to the owning library by the Connecticar delivery system.
Loan Periods
Most library materials, including books, magazines, cds, non-fiction videos, books on tape, & realia, may be borrowed for a three-week loan period. Feature film videos and DVDs may be borrowed for one week. Videos and DVDs on loan to us from the Phoenix Video Society may be borrowed for three days. Museum passes may be borrowed for two days. Framed art may be borrowed for eight weeks.
Renewals
With the exception of videos and DVD's, museum passes, items for which others are waiting, and some interlibrary loan items, library materials may be renewed for one additional loan period either in person, online through the Library Catalog, or by telephone at 644-1541. Returned non-renewable or previously renewed items may be checked-out on the same library card no sooner than the following day pending availability.
Holds
If the items you need are in circulation, you may place a "hold" on the materials and we will notify you when the items are returned. Holds are placed at the circulation or reference desks, please have your library card number ready! You may also place "holds" directly on the computer, either from home or in the library. If, when checking the library computer catalog, you find an item you want but it is currently "unavailable", please click on the "More Info" link. From here choose the button marked "Place hold(s)" and then follow the directions.
Museum Passes
Museum passes are funded by the Friends of South Windsor Public Library and are for South Windsor residents and Friends members only. Passes may be reserved at the Adult Circulation Desk one month in advance. They may be borrowed for two days and are not renewable. If returned late, the overdue charge is $10.00/day.
Interlibrary Loans
We can borrow many of the books, videos and sound recordings which we do not own. Just go the home page, click on 'Contact Us' and then 'Request Interlibrary Loan". Or ask at the Adult Reference Desk or the Children's Circulation Desk.
